Our Pastor

Rev. Gwyneth Arrison is the pastor appointed to serve at Merrimacport United Methodist Church as of September 2011.  Her husband, Jamie is pastor of the First UMC in Amesbury.

Gwyneth grew up outside of Philadelphia but was not raised in the church. She attended Lehigh University to study Mechanical Engineering. After graduation in 1992 she married and moved to Rockport, Maine to begin engineering work at FMC Corporation. Gwyneth began attending a United Methodist Church with Jamie, where she became a follower of Jesus through a Disciple Bible Study. Several years later, Gwyneth experienced a call to ministry. She and Jamie graduated together from Asbury Theological Seminary in 2005, and served as co-pastors at the Peoples UMC in South Portland, Maine for six years.

The Arrisons have three young children, and since Gwyneth and Jamie are each serving half time churches, they can spend significant time with them.  Even so, with church and family responsibilities, this is obviously a busy schedule for them; to ensure the health of their family and marriage, they take a date night each week without the kids, and a Sabbath day each week as a family, often at their camp in Maine.

Pastor Gwyneth carries the phone with her at all times so she can always be reached in an emergency even when she is away from home.

Gwyneth is excited to be pastoring at Merrimacport, and continuing to build on the wonderful ministries already in place such as the sacred dance groups,  interactive worship, music ministry, mission focus and small group studies.
